The inaugural Nanobubble, Energy and Water (NEW) Conference 2025<\/strong>, themed \u201cPathways to Industrial and Environmental Sustainability,\u201d<\/em> was held from the 3rd to the 5th of September at the scenic Killashee Hotel in County Kildare, Ireland. This pioneering event brought together an exceptional mix of scientists, engineers, business and industry leaders from the UK, Canada, Iran, India, Nigeria, France, China, USA, Ireland, and the Netherlands \u2014 all committed to exploring the transformative power of nanobubbles in tackling challenges in energy and water systems.<\/span><\/p>

From the moment of registration\u2014where delegates received a conference booklet, pen, notepad, and agenda\u2014the atmosphere was intellectually energised and deeply collaborative. The event was marked by visionary keynotes, live demonstrations, engaging poster sessions, and dynamic roundtable discussions.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

Day 1 Highlights \u2013 Wednesday, 3rd September<\/strong><\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
The conference officially opened in the Fountain Suite with welcome remarks from Prof. Niall English (University College Dublin), followed by a presentation by Dr Nadine Vermorel, representing the European Research Council (ERC).\u00a0<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

The first keynote showcased a collaborative project with Aramco, followed by a tutorial session on real-world case studies, led by Prof. English and colleagues.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

In the <\/span>afternoon, Prof. Peter Kusalik (University of Calgary) delivered an oral presentation titled \u201cUnravelling the Mystery of Nanobubble Stability and Mobility: Insights from Molecular Simulations and Comparison of Theoretical Models.\u201d <\/em>This was followed by the first poster session, where delegates engaged with cutting-edge research.<\/span><\/div>

Next, Prof. Xinyan Wang (Brunel University of London) presented an overview of nanobubble fuel technology\u2014from fundamentals to applications. Dr Abinah Biswal followed with a talk on \u201cNanobubbles in Fossil Fuels: From Stability to Spray Performance.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/div>

The evening concluded with a welcome wine reception and a refined three-course gala dinner at the Ledger Moore Suite, reflecting the calibre and ambience of the event.<\/span><\/div>

Day 2 Highlights \u2013 Thursday, 4th September<\/strong><\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
Day two began with a keynote by Dr Elmar C. Fuchs (Wetsus), followed by a live outdoor demonstration of nanobubble generation technology.<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
After lunch at the Pippin Tree, Dr Cees Kamp (Turritech) delivered a keynote titled \u201cTurritap \u2013 Mountain Water from Your Tap.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
Afternoon sessions highlighted the broad applicability of nanobubbles, including talks on:<\/span><\/div>
  • Tiny Bubbles with Mega Impacts in Environmental Remediation and Agriculture<\/em><\/span><\/li><\/ul>

    • Molecular Insights into Water\u2013Nanobubble Interactions With and Without Electric Fields: Implications for Science and Industry<\/em><\/span><\/p><\/li><\/ul>

      The day concluded with a lively panel discussion and roundtable titled \u201cBridging Science and Practice: Reducing Energy and Maintenance Intensity Through Nanobubble Generation\u201d,<\/em> followed by a second poster session and additional networking opportunities.<\/span><\/p>

      Day 3 Highlights \u2013 Friday, 5th September<\/strong><\/span><\/p>

      The final day opened with a presentation by Prof. Gang Pan (York St John University) on \u201cFine-Bubble-Based Geoengineering Methods for Eutrophication Control: Harnessing Harmful Algal Blooms for Integrated Water\u2013Energy\u2013Food (iWEF) Products.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>

      This was followed by a plenary session on recent advances in Nanobubble Science & Technology.<\/span><\/p>

      Thematic sessions then explored:<\/span><\/p>

      • Fundamental Science & Research<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/div>

        • Engineering & Technology<\/span><\/p><\/li>

        • Business & Policy<\/span><\/p><\/li><\/ul><\/div>

          Presentations included:<\/span><\/div>

          • A Kinetic and pH-Driven Stability Analysis of Electric Field-Based Air Nanobubbles: Comparison with Mechanical Generation Approaches<\/em><\/span><\/p><\/li>

          • Design and Characterisation of a Compact Milli-Scale Venturi Injector for Nanobubble Generation<\/em><\/span><\/p><\/li>

          • Submersible Nanobubble Generators: An Efficient Way for Long-Term Water Aeration<\/em><\/span><\/p><\/li><\/ul><\/div>

            The conference closed with remarks by Dr Mary Ajide, who also led the poster judging and presented awards for outstanding contributions. The event concluded with lunch, light refreshments, and a final opportunity for networking and reflection.<\/span><\/div>
